About the Event
Chanukah is about the first time when Jewish survival was threatened by a culture, not a nation.
How can a culture be threatening? After all - both cultures have formed the Western World as we know it.
Athens and Jerusalem have shaped the Western world. Athens - through Hellenistic Culture and all that comes with it: Philosophy, Science, Teleology, Architecture, Literature, Sports and the Arts. Jerusalem - through the morals and fundamental ideas stemming from the Hebrew Bible - the Tanakh.
Hellenism was threatening more because of its similarities than its differences with Judaism, as surprising as it sounds. Judaism also values beauty, language and philosophy, and these were especially intriguing to Jews. We will explore some of these themes through the exquisite artifacts in the museum as well as ancient texts. Let's engage in the story of Chanukah through a memorable experience!

You probably have questions about getting to the museum, where to meet, prices and other questions.
Prices are listed in Israeli Shekels and not in USD because I'm an Israeli business, and my website's conversion rate for USD is prohibitive. Instead, I converted to Shekels, and you may pay me instead upon arrival via CC or Venmo or Zelle or Cash.
We are registered as a group with a special discounted rate through the museum, and that admission is included in your ticket. Memberships and other discounts (e.g. NY city resident) do not apply when registering as a group tour, and that is why the admission is included in the ticket. The Met will bill me regardless, so please respect the policy and help me uphold my good standing with the museum.
Meeting place: Near the statue of the Pharaoh in the Great Hall. That is right near the Special Admissions and Group Ticket desk, and that is where I pick up your pre-paid tickets. Only the guide can pick them up, and you do not need to wait in line at all.
