King Hezekiah (Chizkiyahu) rebelled against Sennacherib, King of Assyria.

In the year 701 BCE Sennacherib launched a campaign to suppress and punish the regional revolt, which was spearheaded by King Hezekiah. This is the most documented story in Tanakh: The sites of the battle and the remains of the destruction are well-known, including Jerusalem, Lachish, Azekah and more; Sennacherib wrote about it and decorated the walls of his throne room in Nineveh with the story; Hezekiah's extensive preparations in Jerusalem can be seen today. Do we need anymore to convince us this was a significant story?

There is one character who appears in a seemingly tangential verse in the story: Taharqa, the King of Nubia, attacked Sennacherib at some point along the campaign. It is unclear what the distant country of Nubia (Sudan) is doing in this regional conflict, and we don't give it a second thought. And yet his true identity, and the consequence of his interference had a long-lasting impact on Egypt's history is a major story. Let's meet this character and revisit the story, and its connection to Pesach.

This is an approximately 60 minute virtual tour in English
