About the tour:

This family tour is for kids ages 6-12 and adults. It is adapted for children, and the paragraph below will give you a broader perspective on the subjects we will touch upon. The information will be age-appropriate.

This tour is in ENGLISH, and is approximately 1:15 hrs long. We meet in the lobby of the Bible Lands Museum, Jerusalem

Chanukah is the first time Jewish survival was threatened by a culture, not a nation or an army. The Hasmonean revolt against the Seleucid Syrian Greeks had its roots in a bitter history of Jew against Jew.

Hellenistic vs. traditional Judaism were the story of the day, and we can definitely relate to this dilemma today in the Western world.  What can be learned from the cultural clash between Athens and Jerusalem? Surprisingly, it is what the two have in common that makes one a threat to the other.

This tour explores the common roots of Athens and Jerusalem, and discovers profound similarities and differences between the two cultures. Both use Olive Oil as a symbol of wisdom; both value wisdom and philosophy; both compete for excellence - of different kinds. And therein lies the subtle, but profound difference.
